You should not expect that a timepiece with marking “waterproof”can be used for swimming or even diving. This is not true, because resistance to water of timepieces differs. Most waterproof timepieces can withstand a short-time contact with water, but such watches must not be used for swimming and certainly they should not be used for diving.
Before getting a waterproof watches you must find out what the markings on the watch mean. Never swim or dive with a timepiece that has the marking “waterproof” 3 ATM (30 m)”. There are watches with higher water resistance – to 50m, you ought to remove such a wristwatch if you plan to dive, but such a wristwatch will withstand swimming. The nicest watches are those with resistance to water to 10ATM (100 m), such timepieces are nice for diving.
It must be admitted that imitation watches that enjoy so enormous popularity, are not highly water resistant. If you are going to buy a wristwatch for diving, you have better buy a genuine timepiece, for instance a Rolex wristwatch, but not a Rolex replicawristwatch. Keep in mind, that an imitation Rolex timepiece imitates a genuine Rolex timepiece perfectly, but it is not so fine. Keep in mind that fake watches damaged by water are not accepted for refund, the same refers to genuine timepieces that are not marked as waterproof to 10 ATM or more.
